Hi! I’m Luis Julián.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1982. I learned art at age 5 at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School and later learned to use drafting tools in Middle school. Thereafter, I learned more about art venues at Ponce High School with Luis " Táto" Gonzalez (Puerto Rican visual artist) and participated in my first art exhibit at the Fine Arts school in Ponce, Puerto Rico. After graduating in 2001, I decided to make my BA in visual arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico from 2001 to 2007. From there, I learned different art styles and practiced art techniques, printmaking, and sculpture. However, my biggest interest was painting and drawing.
I made numerous art presentations in Puerto Rico; my latest work was breaking into comics and illustrations with Alfonso Gonzalez on the title ARTIFICE Published in 2008. Then worked with Danny Jimenez & Eric Ramos on the Graphic Nobel GRAVESTONE (formally known in Puerto Rico as UTOPIXIA STUDIOS) from 2009 to 2022 where I provided digital colors and graphics for multiple tied titles of the Main character.
Moved to Florida in 2013 to restart my life. From 2015 to 2018, I was granted the opportunity to teach art at the Crealde School of Art. There, I taught my first course on how to draw poses for a comic book or illustration art for young adults and continued teaching summer school cartoon classes. In 2018, I became a K-5 visual art teacher from 2018 until 2021.
My recent accomplishments are designing a T shirt for Penske Truck leasing. Collaborating as a colorist for the graphic novel Gravestone™ with Utopixia Studios LLC & created a logo for Sweet Stack Cakes. I am now focusing on creating my first children’s book publication completely hand drawn and colored in watercolor & completing my Masters Degree in Illustration at the Academy of Art University.
